Eyeglasses of Different Strengths for Various Tasks
You may require more than one pair of reading glasses at different strengths for different tasks. For example, if your hobby is needlepoint, you need to see extremely close up, because of the attention to detail. However, working on your computer or reading music to play an instrument means you are a little further away from the reading material, requiring a different strength of eyeglasses from the needlepoint. We call them computer glasses. If you wear bifocals, you may find that — unless what you are reading is in your lap — you must tip your head back all day long to use the reading zone in the bottom of the lenses
Generally your eyes' refraction power are different and need to have totally different prescriptions. We recommend you have a full eye examination to determine good eye health and if a prescription is required to correct your vision properly.
Of course, safety glasses are a must to protect your eyes from flying debris when you are working with power tools as well as hand tools such as hammers and saws.
Eyeglasses for Musicians
Musicians depend on their eyeglasses to work effectively at the right focal distance. Whether conducting the orchestra or playing an instrument, it’s crucial that a musician’s eyewear works in harmony with the distance required to perform. The solution - custom designed reading lengths for reading music.
Musicians need to look from side-to-side; for example, reading almost anything but 2"-wide newspaper columns? The in-focus segment at the center of the glasses is literally about 1.5" wide at reading distance. When musicians read music, they need to be able to scan with their eyes.
One of the first things musicians learn early on is to keep reading ahead. It’s one of the things that allow a player to become a good sight-reader. Scanning allows us to perform that task. Another useful habit is the ability to reference another part of the page in the blink of an eye without losing your place. Checking the key or time signature, especially when you’re constantly changing as they do in so much of new music, or looking for measure numbers quickly during rehearsal are only a few of many examples. When the ability to scan is taken away, the disorientation can be overwhelming.
Talk with Doug about a suitable pair of intermediate single-vision glasses and another pair for near-vision. Single-vision intermediates may work for a younger musician, allowing you to see your instrument clearly enough, the music stand perfectly and the conductor by looking over the top of the glasses. Most musicians opt for single-vision glasses over progressives to use when they play music.
Specialty Eyeglasses for Golfers
From the basketball court to the ocean, it is best to protect your eyes when participating in certain activities. That is why smart athletes wear protective eyewear. At Wohl Optics, we not only offer protective safety eyewear to enhance the performance of all types of athletes, we even adapt your prescription to the protective eyewear best suited to your sport. Whether you are playing baseball, scuba diving or golfing, we can outfit you with the proper specialty eyewear.
To perform optimally in your favorite sport, you most definitely will benefit from a consultation with your eye-care professional with a focus on your sports vision — even if you have 20/20 vision. Your typical basic eye exam will not usually include the tests of these special visual skills critically necessary to your challenging sports performance.
Sports vision tests are extensive and should be tailored to the sport you love to participate in. Your examiner would include tests which evaluate how you see during movement both in and outdoors while interacting with other people, sounds, players, coaching instruction, obstructing objects or other players. This is why we ask you about your lifestyle during your eye exam.
Hobby Eyeglasses - Needlepoint - Knitting
If you wear bifocals, you may find that — unless what you're reading is in your lap — you must tip your head back all day long to use the reading zone in the bottom of the lenses. You can avoid neck discomfort by purchasing special work glasses that have the reading segment placed higher up in the lenses or single vision lenses so you can see what you are working on without straining. If you have a hobby that you spend a lot of time doing, then consider hobby glasses.
